Today I’m talking about Guild Wars Trilogy, which isn’t really one game but three. Guild Wars has been around for years from NCsoft, famous for their City of Heroes / City of Villains MMORPG (Massively Multilayer Role Playing Game), and although Guild Wars is technically an MMORPG it differs from the normal formula. For starters it doesn’t have, had, or will ever have a monthly subscription fee. You don’t have to continue to pay every month in order to play this game, there is no hidden fees or anything. It is simply a one time purchase for a lifetime of online play.
There are a lot of other things that set this apart from the “norm.” I already mentioned that there isn’t a subscription fee, which almost all MMORPGs have, but the gameplay is highly unique. For starters, in most MMORPGs you receive skills and can use them as much as you want but in Guild Wars you buy your skills and are only allowed to choose 8 to use at any given time. So you can actually have 30+ skills but you can only choose 8 of them to take on questing with you.
The MMO part of MMORPG is also a lot different then a normal MMORPG. You can see all the people logged on the server when your in a town or city but when you leave a town or city you go into your own “instance.” While in your’ instance you can only see people in your party and are in your’ instance. There are several character classes in the game that you choose during character creation but later in the game you are allowed to choose a second class to use for your character also.
There are several other features of the game that you can look into more but there are things about the Guild Wars Trilogy I want to talk about. The Guild Wars Trilogy is the retail version of Guild Wars that combines all three original games together in one retail version. Not only are you allowed access to all three original games but you are given several bonus in-game items to help you out. One of them being a summonable Imp Minion that you can use until you hit level 20.
There are also several heros in the game that you can obtain and if you order the trilogy then you gain access to MOX, a giant golem fighting robot.
I mean, how cool is that guy!
This retail version of the game doesn’t come with the newest expansion of the game, there are a total of four games, but it comes with the original three and that makes it more than worth its’ $30 Price tag. You get unlimited online play and access to three separate story lines with several missions and quests. If you do check it out then look me up because I would be happy to help you out or give you some pointers.
There is a lot more to this game that I haven’t mentioned and a very large section of the game is PvP (player-vs-player) and if you’re into PvP then this game is defiantly something you should check out!
If you have played Guild Wars, are playing Guild Wars, or even know of Guild Wars, leave a comment about your experience and I’ll make sure to comment back!
