Guild Wars Trilogy

Written by Talimore on June 2nd, 2010

Today I’m talking about Guild Wars Trilogy, which isn’t really one game but three. Guild Wars has been around for years from NCsoft, famous for their City of Heroes / City of Villains MMORPG (Massively Multilayer Role Playing Game), and although Guild Wars is technically an MMORPG it differs from the normal formula. For starters it doesn’t have, had, or will ever have a monthly subscription fee. You don’t have to continue to pay every month in order to play this game, there is no hidden fees or anything. It is simply a one time purchase for a lifetime of online play.

Final Fantasy XI – 02

Written by Talimore on May 21st, 2010

I leveled up! I hit level 33 today after a couple of hours partying with these two nice people. The setup was, from left to right, White Mage (Boarax), Beastmaster (Boldwin – aka Me), and Red Mage (Legatus). We were leveling up in the Jungle and believe it or not I ended up dieing about three times saving these two. It was a lot of fun though, as you can see.

So I never explained my character that well. Right now I’m playing Beastmaster because… well… I like it. People have mixed feelings on Beastmasters because some say that they are good and others just hate them. Well most players, from my personal experience, don’t like Beastmaster. Beastmaster is one of the few jobs in this game that can play, relatively well, by themselves. Every other class can play alone but they can’t do half as well alone as they can in a party. Beastmaster is an exception to the rule and a good one at that. The main reason for that is because a Beastmaster can tame wild monsters to fight for them and they don’t have to share experience points with the tamed beast. So every Beastmaster is a party of two already.

Final Fantasy XI – 01

Written by Talimore on May 20th, 2010

Hello everyone and welcome to my first Final Fantasy XI update. Your probably wondering why I haven’t updated my WoW updates for a while. And the reason isn’t that I quit WoW, because I’m still playing, but because In WoW I’m not really doing much. I don’t like posting about how I killed the same boss again, or got an extra drop… That doesn’t sound interesting at all. But good news! I started playing FFXI again.

For those who don’t know what FFXI (Final Fantasy XI) is, it is another MMORPG (Massively Multilayer Role Playing Game) made by the same people who make all the other Final Fantasy games, Square Enix. It’s a game that allows the player to choose from one of five races and then the player must choose their Job. Your’ job is what you do in the game. If you want to heal then you choose to be a White Mage, if you want to deal Magic Damage then you can become a Black Mage, and so on. There is a bit more to it but I’m not going to go into to much detail, all you need to know is that there are several unique jobs and any character can be anyone at any time. What that means is, if you start at a White Mage and decide you want to be a Black Mage you can switch and you don’t lose anything. Each Job, or most commonly used term “class”, in the game on your’ character has its own level. So if you level White Mage to Lv. 14 and switch to Black Mage then your’ White Mage will always be Lv. 14, until you switch back, but your Black Mage will start at Lv. 1.

The Humble Indie Bundle

Written by konfuzed on May 13th, 2010

Have you ever been frustrated that the games you’re playing feel unoriginal and soulless? That your games don’t support Mac or Linux? That your money goes largely to middlemen? That intrusive DRM treats you like a criminal for buying a game? That you only get one thing with each purchase, and if it’s no good you’re out of luck? That you can’t afford a game, but have no option to at least pay what you can and play it anyway, instead of giving them none of your money and not playing it, therefore leaving both parties worse off? What if all of those complaints could go away, and you’d get to benefit charities to boot? Enter “The Humble Indie Bundle”.

So far, they’ve raised around $1.1 million and went open source with 4 of the 6 games.

If you visit within the next few days, you can pay ANY PRICE you want to, and you’ll get 6 awesome indie games. Normally you’d have to pay nearly 100$. (Even if you’re short on cash, you really should at least give a buck or two though; otherwise they’d LOSE money on fees and bandwidth.) The two charities benefited are Child’s Play, an organization that buys video games for kids who are stuck in the hospital long-term with painful conditions, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an organization that fights for citizen rights in this new age of technology, where so many new rules that will define the way technology can be used in years to come are being defined.

On top of contributing to charity, you get:

League of Legends – Free “DotA 2.0″

Written by Talimore on May 3rd, 2010

I’m going to be completely honest, I wasn’t a big fan of DotA (Defense of the Ancients). I played it a few times, both in the past and recently, but I just never enjoyed playing it. The main reason I didn’t like DotA was because of how complex it was without any real instructions. This is probably because DotA was a mod for Warcraft 3 and not a full fledged game. But now there is a new, fully furnished, game called League of Legends.

Right away you will draw many similarities to DotA and for good reason. League of Legends was created by Riot Games and the team that worked on League of Legends features many talented and familiar people. For starters, there is Steve Feak, the original creater of Dota Allstars and Steve Mescon, the man who started DotA-Allstarts.com and has worked closely with the DotA community over many years. I should also mention Tom Cadwell because you definitely see a lot of his influence in this game. Tom Cadwell worked at Blizzard as Play Balance Lead for Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, the game DotA was created from, and also worked as a key designer in World of Warcraft.

Before I go into gameplay details and talk about the game in-depth, here is the teaser trailer for the game. The game is now released though and I will provide links in the full article.

Monster Hunter Tri

Written by Talimore on April 30th, 2010

I want this! I was never a huge fan of the Monster Hunter series but the recent Monster Hunter for PSP grabbed my interest for a while. I got a copy of it and played it for some time but the biggest problem with the game was the online. You either had to be in the same room with a person and their PSP or go online with a PS3. So I, eventually, got a PS3 from my girlfriend for Christmas and I used it to play Monster Hunter for the PSP online… It was bad… really bad… Either the connections were horrible or the experience was horrible. No one was playing or they were all too high level… But I loved the gameplay! The online was just so bad and fighting together is a major aspect of Monster Hunter.

Enough of the PSP game though, how is this new Wii game measuring up to the Monster Hunter world? Now I don’t have this game for my Wii and for only one reason, I’m not in America right now and don’t want to pay the import costs. This is on the top of my list to get when I return home though and I think it’s right that I mention it here because I have been hearing nothing but good things about this game! I have heard this from both Monster Hunter Fans and people who have never heard of Monster Hunter before. I even heard from a friend that his grandfather loved this game.

WoW Update – #01

Written by Talimore on April 21st, 2010

Hey everyone, guess its time to give a World of Warcraft Update.

First I guess I should explain my characters, I have a couple 80s and a 75ish, with a lot of lower levels (45ish). My current main toon is Beoulve, an 80 Paladin, on the Scarlet Crusade Server. You can check him out on the WoW Armory. I do a lot of PvP, Arena and Raids with him, although I just started getting into Raids. I have Duel Spec but gear for all three specs. I have a nice Tanking Spec and Set that is at Ice Crown Citadel Level and I have both Healing and DPS PvP Sets.

So what is going to be in these WoW Updates? I plan on updating you about my characters raid progression, their good and bad PvP Sessions, as well as my Arena Teams. In regards to Arena I am currently running 2v2 with a Warlock friend of mine but we also switch to his Druid. For 3v3 I just started running Hunter, Druid and me healing. As well as updating you on all this I will throw up pictures of in-game stuff and hopefully give you some good pointers on how to survive Ice Crown Citadel and maybe even a guide or two on making some gold.
